Julie Brayton is a painter and interior designer working in New York City.

After graduating with degrees in interior design, art history and journalism, she entered the world of high design in 2012, going to work for the AD100 designers Michael S. Smith and Martyn Lawrence Bullard in Los Angeles.

She then opened her own design firm in Denver, which she ran for six years before moving her practice to New York City. Julie's experience includes design projects for high-profile private clients, iconic boutique hotels and restaurants.

That work runs alongside the painting, and into it. The canvases are abstract and built in layers — colour worked wet into wet, scraped back, and returned to over days — but they are conceived the way a designer conceives a room: at scale, in a palette, for a particular wall and a particular quality of light.

Paintings are sold directly from the studio. Commissions are taken a few at a time, sized to the room.
